Welcome to The Gov Shack LIVE, where I break down how I would fix New York State as Governor of New York. Today’s episode asks a tough question: Was MLK Day used as a political weapon? During her MLK Day remarks, Kathy Hochul sharply attacked Donald Trump, while critics argue she sidelined core Black American issues and pivoted to immigration and LGBT topics instead.

Is this appropriate—or is it co-opting a day meant to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy? Is it ethical for elected leaders to use commemorations for partisan messaging? What should New York’s governor have focused on—education, crime, housing, jobs, and opportunity—and what are the consequences when those priorities are ignored?

I’ll review the full video, separate substance from signaling, and explain what this means for race relations, public trust, and New York’s future. As always, there will be LIVE comments and questions so you can weigh in and challenge the ideas.

If you care about MLK’s legacy, honest leadership, and real solutions, join the conversation.
